Billionaires' Row in Neon

Price

$650.00

I remember the first time I saw Billionaires' Row. It was just my third day in New York City—everything still felt so new, so overwhelming. The subway ride there was an adventure in itself, the rhythmic clatter so different from the quiet desert mornings I was used to. But I needed to see it for myself, this place I'd heard so much about.

When I finally stepped into Central Park that morning, the city seemed to exhale around me. I found a perfect spot with a view of those towering buildings rising against the sky like modern monuments. There was something about the contrast—this carefully crafted greenspace nestled against these soaring symbols of wealth and ambition. I just had to capture it in what would become one of my signature neon oil landscape paintings.

I set up my easel right there, the warmth of the sun on my back reminding me of New Mexico, even as the energy around me was distinctly New York. As I painted, the hours melted away. People would stop, watch for a while, and ask about my website or if I had other neon oil paintings for sale. Some shared stories about their own connections to the park or to art. A woman told me she'd lived in the city her whole life but had never seen someone creating a neon oil painting in NYC, especially not with the colors I was using.

Dogs would come by with their owners—each one making my heart ache a little for my own pup back home. There was this little terrier that sat beside me for almost twenty minutes, his owner patiently waiting while I slipped him a treat from my bag.

The colors came to me naturally that day—the vibrant pinks and electric blues that dance across the canvas aren't what you'd typically see in this landscape, but they're how it felt to me. The way the buildings caught the light, how they stood in such stark contrast to the soft natural curves of the park—there was an energy there that only neon could capture.

This painting holds that perfect day—my introduction to Central Park, the strangers who became momentary friends, the dogs who kept me company, and that first real sense that maybe, just maybe, I could find my place in this new world so different from the desert I'd left behind.

Technique & Style

This original neon oil painting in NYC showcases my signature style—where the warmth of New Mexico meets the vibrancy of New York City. I've used layers of bold, textured brushstrokes to create depth, with intricate details that reward closer viewing. The unnatural neon palette transforms this iconic cityscape into something dreamlike and emotional, blending urban patterns with an almost surreal quality.

Each layer was carefully built up to create the luminous quality that makes this piece come alive in different lighting. The contrasting colors capture that feeling of transformation and possibility that New York embodies for me.
