About Alex Chavez

My earliest memories are filled with the smell of oil paints and the vast New Mexico landscapes. My mother would take me on hikes, strapping me to her chest while she captured the desert's beauty. As I grew, she placed brushes in my hands, encouraging me to find my own voice through color and texture.

The pivotal moment in my artistic development came during my teenage years. While visiting a museum exhibition about bee ecology, I was fascinated by a display showing bees' ultraviolet vision—how they perceive flowers in vibrant, otherworldly colors invisible to the human eye. I was transfixed by this hidden world of color and light that exists alongside our own.

This revelation changed everything. I began experimenting with neon oils, pushing the boundaries of traditional landscape painting to reveal what might otherwise remain unseen. My mother always said I had a gift for "showing what isn't there" in my art, even before I discovered neon pigments. Those words guided me as I developed my signature style—bold, textured brushwork that blends earthy Southwestern motifs with electric, dreamlike colors.

When I moved to New York, I brought the desert with me. The city's energy transformed my work further, adding new dimensions to my color palette and subject matter. Now, I find inspiration in my walks through Central Park, capturing moments where urban energy meets natural beauty, all through my unique neon-infused perspective.

Today, I share my passion through both gallery exhibitions and community paint-and-sip events, where I teach others to see the world through new eyes. My work continues to evolve as I bridge my two worlds—the quiet vastness of New Mexico and the vibrant pulse of New York—creating pieces that speak to transformation, adaptation, and finding beauty in between.
